Abstract

There are several real-world instances of ineffective control over the geomechanical characteristics of rocks
in solid mineral mining operations across the globe. As a result, subterranean excavations are ruined, mine
safety and benefits decline, mineral losses increase, and accidents and ecological disasters are brought on.
Sinkholes at the Upper Kama potash-magnesium soil deposit, flooding in salt mines [1], dynamic sagging
of challenging main roofs (rock bridges) in coal mining, and massive methane ejections in roads [2] are just
a few of the catastrophic consequences of poor control over the geomechanical properties of undermined
rock strata.
