Abstract

These days, image compression is crucial for uses like data base storage and communication. This study
examines and discusses picture compression, including its necessity, concepts, classes, and different
algorithms on the subject. The goal of this study is to provide a formula for choosing one of the widely used
image compression algorithms based on the Wavelet, JPEG/DCT, VQ, and fractal techniques. We examine
and analyze the benefits and drawbacks of different grayscale picture compression algorithms, and we provide
an experimental comparison using one 400x400 fingerprint image and a regularly used 256x256 image of
Lenna.
